Message from Rick Gleason, President of the Minoru Yasui Inn of Court

Welcome to the Minoru Yasui Inn of Court website! The Minoru Yasui Inn of Court is one of six Inns of Court in Colorado. We were established in 1996, and now have 139 members, including judges, attorneys, and law students. Like all of the other Inns of Court, our goal is to foster a cordial and collegial spirit among our members, to encourage integrity, ethics, and honor in the practice of law, and to mentor new lawyers and law students. Based on experience, our members are placed in four membership categories: Judge/Master, Barrister, Associate, and Pupil. Each member is also a member of one of a dozen a pupilage groups with members from each of the four membership levels. This assures interaction at all levels within the smaller groups, and allows one-on-one mentoring opportunities for our students. We meet eight times a year to enjoy dinner and an educational program. We foster friendship, professional courtesy and respect, as well as student mentoring.

The first American Inns of Court were established in 1980, spurred by Justice Warren Burger’s vision of adopting the traditional English model of legal apprenticeship to the needs of the American legal system. Each Inn is dedicated to the professional development of its members and mentoring of its students. The Inn provides a unique opportunity for lawyers, judges and students to engage with one another in a collegial setting. It forms a sense of community that reminds us that we each have responsibility for the quality and health of our legal system.

Our Inn chose to name itself after Minoru Yasui, a well-known and respected Denver attorney and activist. We are proud to honor his commitment to the law and to civil rights. In keeping with the example of Min Yasui, the Inn participates in philanthropic endeavors for the benefit of our community.
